The Hoardless MCP server

Your agent can read your disk. It cannot delete.

hoardless-mcp is a local MCP server that ships inside Hoardless. It lets Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and other MCP clients answer "what is filling my disk?" from your Hoardless scan, and build a reclaim preview. It can start a scan. It has no tool that moves, trashes or deletes anything.

Connect your agent

The easiest way: open Hoardless, go to AI Connect, and press Connect next to your client. Hoardless shows the exact config change, writes it, and runs a live test. It supports Claude Code, Claude, Cursor, Codex, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed and Raycast.

To set it up by hand, point your client at the server binary:

Claude Code

claude mcp add --scope user --transport stdio hoardless -- /Applications/Hoardless.app/Contents/MacOS/hoardless-mcp

Cursor, Claude and Windsurf

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "hoardless": {
      "command": "/Applications/Hoardless.app/Contents/MacOS/hoardless-mcp",
      "args": []
    }
  }
}

Codex (~/.codex/config.toml)

[mcp_servers.hoardless]
command = "/Applications/Hoardless.app/Contents/MacOS/hoardless-mcp"
args = []
startup_timeout_sec = 20
tool_timeout_sec = 45

The server reads the local index at ~/.hoardless/index.sqlite. Scan once in the app first, or ask your agent to start a scan.

What to ask

Tools

16 tools. Every one reads the index or builds a preview, except start_scan, which runs a scan (opening Hoardless in the background if needed) and writes only to the Hoardless index.

ToolWhat it returns
get_storage_overviewTotal indexed bytes, categories, the largest apps, developer cache totals and what is safe to reclaim. Start here.
list_scansStored scans, newest first, and which one other tools use by default.
get_category_detailsLargest paths in one category. For System Data, its parts: snapshots, iOS backups, caches, logs, swap, Trash.
investigate_folderWhy one folder is its size: largest children, file types, age, growth and what inside is reclaimable.
get_date_range_breakdownBytes added inside a date range versus outside it, by category, with the largest files and folders.
growth_timelineBytes added per day, week or month, with the top folders in each.
explain_growthWhy space grew on one day, from curated tables and detectors, never from a model.
disk_watch_statusLatest used and free space, the last 24 hours of change and open alerts.
list_appsEach app's real cost: bundle plus Containers, Application Support, Caches, Logs and web data.
get_app_detailsOne app's breakdown and its largest files, by bundle id.
list_dev_cachesDocker, Xcode, Node, Homebrew, Cargo and Go, Gradle and Maven, IDE, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Ollama, Hugging Face and LM Studio caches, with safety tiers.
list_unusedItems where two independent signals agree they are unused, with dates, confidence and blockers.
preview_reclaimA reclaim plan preview: paths, bytes, tiers and warnings. Never deletes.
get_reclaim_historyReclaims you ran in the app, with bytes and failures.
start_scanStarts a scan in the background, only when you ask for one.
get_scan_statusProgress and result of a scan.

Prompts

cleanup_report, whats_eating_my_disk, dev_caches_review, unused_review, reclaim_plan, explain_growth and investigate_folder.

Questions

Can an AI agent delete files through the Hoardless MCP server?

No. The server can read the scan index, build reclaim previews and start a scan. It has no tool that moves, trashes or deletes anything. You run a reclaim plan yourself in the Hoardless app.

Which AI clients work with Hoardless?

Any MCP client that launches a local stdio server. AI Connect in Hoardless sets up Claude Code, Claude, Cursor, Codex, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed and Raycast with one button and a live test.

Does the Hoardless MCP server send my data anywhere?

No. It runs on your Mac and talks only to the client that started it and the Hoardless app. Nothing leaves your Mac. What your AI client then does with the answers depends on that client.
